Take a moment to notice the * at the beginning of various portions of the order of service. The * indicates the place where it is inappropriate to enter or leave the sanctuary because it marks a time of prayer or respect for the Word of the Lord. Please be considerate of others around you by honoring these notations.
We receive in faith His counsel that Christ’s very body and blood are present under the bread and wine for our forgiveness. As we receive Holy Communion today, the whole counsel of God moves us to determine confessional oneness for those who receive the sacrament together. Out of care for souls and a common confession, we ask that if you do not belong to a Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation or any congregation in altar pulpit fellowship with her, and you choose to approach the table, cross your arms to receive a blessing.
YOUTH SERVICE
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Endure
September 14, 2025
AS WE GATHER: ENDURE. Jesus endured. The things He endured are beyond our comprehension. He, the God of the universe, came to His people as a man and they did not receive Him. He preformed miracles and preached the Good News, but He was despised and rejected. And yet He did not turn back. He endured all the way to a brutal death on a cross, with the weight of the world’s sins on His shoulders.
What did Jesus endure for? Hebrews tells us it was “for the joy that was set before Him” (Heb. 12:2). That joy, my friend, is you. You, redeemed by His blood. You, turning to Him in repentance and faith. You, at rest with Him and all the saints in heaven above.
Jesus endured for you. Ever since Adam and Eve’s first sin in the Garden of Eden, sin has passed down to every one of us like the most fatal genetic disease. We will never invent a cure for it. That sin separates us from our God, who is perfectly holy. It separates us from ourselves, too—from the people we were created to be, the lives we were meant to live.
This separation grieves God our Father in heaven, where “there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10). It is for this joy that Christ endured. For this joy, He died and rose again. For this joy, that you would put your faith in Him and His forgiveness and live eternally with God.
And so, we ENDURE in this faith. “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,” we “run with endurance the race that is set before us” in this life (Heb. 12:1,2). We endure together, in community of the church. Together, with our eyes fixed on Jesus, we endure to the end.
May it be so in your life each and every day, as you fix your eyes ever on Jesus, the ONE WHO ENDURED FOR YOU.

Sermon Hymn:
For All the Saints LSB 677
1 For all the saints who from their labors rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
4 Oh, blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
5 And when the fight is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
7 But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day;
The saints triumphant rise in bright array;
The King of glory passes on His way.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Please Stand
8 From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast,
Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost:
Alleluia! Alleluia!

*Prayer of the Church
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Father, as we have received the love of Jesus, our Good Samaritan, enable us by Your Spirit to reach out in love and compassion to others. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gracious Lord, You gave the old covenant through angels to train Israel in Your Law. Bless the ministers of Your new covenant to proclaim forgiveness, life and salvation to all nations in the stead and by the command of Christ. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, lead Your people in Your steadfast love, and guide them in strength to Your holy abode. Sanctify our homes. Be the companion of those who live alone. Make our households places where Your wisdom and grace are found. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, grant health and wisdom to those in authority, that they may carry out their duties according to Your will. Enable them to protect us from violence and evil and to maintain peace and righteousness. Let our land be filled with citizens who love You with all their heart, mind, soul and strength, and who love their neighbors as themselves. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, wherever the wicked strip and wound, and wherever the devil seeks our fall, You meet us with healing and grace to endure. Soothe and lift up all in need. Carry them to find rest in You. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Merciful God, You choose what is foolish to shame the wise. Set aside all our objections to Your kindness in Your Holy Supper, and prepare the hearts of those who commune to receive Your Son’s body and blood for the forgiveness of their sins. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, Father of us all, turn the hearts of Christian brother to brother, that those who fall into sin would be brought to repentance and not be rebuked beyond measure, but rather be restored to the communion of the faithful. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank You that You have granted us to live in this accepted time when we may hear Your holy Gospel, know Your fatherly will and behold Your Son, Jesus Christ! We implore You, most merciful Father, let the light of Your Word remain with us and so govern our hearts by Your Holy Spirit that we may never forsake Your Word, but remain steadfast in it and, finally, obtain eternal salvation; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the same Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
