Hurricane Helene - LCMS Disaster Response
Hurricane Helene made landfall near Perry, Fla., on Sept. 26 as a Category 4 storm. Since that time, it has left a devastating trail of death and destruction across the southeastern United States. The death toll is currently estimated at more than 220 people in six states.

On Sept. 30, the Rev. Dr. Ross Johnson, director of LCMS Disaster Response, departed for a multi-day visit to assess the damage, after which an initial response plan will be developed in cooperation with the districts affected. Other LCMS districts and Recognized Service Organizations are also assisting with the response.

While early reports seemed to indicate the damage would not be extensive, that quickly changed. In Florida, the Tampa and St. Petersburg areas sustained severe flooding, with multiple homes taking in water, making them currently uninhabitable. Meanwhile, south-central Georgia experienced significant tree damage, and western North Carolina — particularly Asheville — remains in dire conditions, with closed roads impeding transportation, and widespread power and cellular outages making communication difficult or impossible.

Johnson encourages everyone in the LCMS to take part in the response as they are able. First, and most important, please pray for those affected by the storms. Second, consider volunteering to assist with the response. Third, consider a gift to LCMS Disaster Response.

Valley Lutheran School Invites You!

"Growing Generations" is the name of Valley Lutheran School's effort to respond to God’s calling to be More Than A School and the increasing

enrollment God is blessing us with. Come Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. to see our beginning renovations to enhance building security,

functionality of our gymnasium and the addition of classroom spaces for the sake of sharing God's truth and grace. It will be a fun night to tour our renovations and hear more about our "Growing Generations" campaign. Join us!

Exciting Things Happening at Valley Lutheran School!

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, you are invited to come for a guided tour of Valley's newest renovations and the beginnings of how we are finishing the unfinished areas of our building. We have added classrooms, office spaces and renovated our gymnasium as enrollment is growing and we are striving to be the school God is calling us to be. The evening begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Come and join us for food, fellowship and learning about Valley's goals to be More Than A School! God has used us to "Growing Generations" for the past 21 years and we are excited to see what He is doing as we prepare for the next 21 years! G E N E R A T I O N S BE A PART OF THE NEXT GENERATIONS!

God has blessed Valley Lutheran School to be a place where parents and school work together as partners in Christ to share faith from generation to generation. We could have never done this the past 21 years without God's people and our Association Congregations! Please come to Valley

Lutheran School on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. to learn how you can be a part of the next 21 years as we strive to be so much More Than A School and a place that not only teaches academics but proclaims God's truth and grace. Everyone is invited. Come and see what God is doing in "your" Lutheran School.

We also ask that our Association Congregations lift us up in prayer during the month of November and especially the services immediately before and after Thursday, November 7. We ask that the congregation give thanks for the Christ-centered education that Valley has been blessed to offer our students over the past 21 years and that God will bless our "Growing Generations" capital campaign to provide the necessary funding ($4.2 million) to cover our Phase I expenses. Half of the renovations and enhancements to our building was started summer 2024 and the second half will be completed, God willing, summer 2025 as we already know we will need additional classroom spaces.

We will be announcing how much has already been given and/or committed to the "Growing Generations" campaign the evening of November 7.

Gifts are already being given even though November 7 is the official start of our "Growing Generations" effort.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Executive Director, Rev. Henry G. Pahlkotter, Il or his assistant, Mrs. Shaylene Scheele.

We pray that your congregation will be strongly represented on November 7 as you are a vital part of Valley's ministry.
